• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can anyone help with what antenna this is? It was on a local county sheriff car and the only antenna. They're on P25. I've been wanting to get an antenna on my truck to pick up p25 better on my scanner and would much rather have this small one if possible.

Depends. I mean, it works for them (obviously) but a scanner has a much wider receiver. Too much gain and you might get clobbered when you pass a cellular site or you might pick up multiple simulcast sites and get distortion. Not enough gain and you might have a noisy signal. Most people just go with one of the 3 inch spikes. They work about as well as the "low profile."

I probably should say that digital signals don't need a "digital antenna." That was a gimmick the old television repairmen used to use for color TV to sell more "color TV antennas" and it seems to have popped up in digital times. So, you don't need anything special to hear a digital signal, just something that's resonant. But beyond that depends on where you are in relation to what you're trying to listen to.

What are the 3 inch antennas you're referring to? Are they good for 800 p25?

I just sent you a link to a description in the last post. They should be fine for 800 P25 in most cases. I don't want to be confusing, but a scanner will work on just about anything, though.

Yeah it works pretty good but just want an external antenna to get better reception in areas I don't that good now.

Thank you very much!
