Portland public safety

Trying to program portland for my bcd996p2... Using freescan... Is all I have to do is import it from radio reference? Doesn't appear to work...

I have used the database to program a 996p2 with good luck. You might have trouble picking it up in Lewiston. I am not able to pick it up much beyond Freeport in the truck.

For your reference, Biddeford is the cut off point for reception south of the city. That is with a scanner inside a moving vehicle anyways.

Portland uses an 800mhz band system and as such the distance that it can be heard at is far less than VHF, which is what Lewiston/Auburn uses.

VHF is MUCH stronger than 800mhz, so much so that I used to hit a repeater located in Cape Elizabeth all the way from northern NH with no problem.
