• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just a random question here, but how did the XTS/XTL Series fall into place/timeline? I (Think) the XTS3000 was the 1st in the portable series. Unsure on the XTL Series. Not a major issue, just curious! I have a XTS3000 and love it!!! Thanks in advance!!!

The XTS 3000 and Astro Spectra Plus were solutions to fill the gap till the Astro 25 line came out. They were built to use with trunking and some other options as the radios had expanded memory compared to the Astro line. But as your know the 3000 uses the same software as the Astro Saber while the Plus is pretty much an XTL in Spectra clothing.

Kawa Mall

I also have a Kawa Mall serial cable for the XTS3000, and it works just fine.

Here's a sweet flashback from 1997. I remember visiting this page often and drooling over the Astro Saber and XTS3000. When the time came to buy my own in 2000, I went with the Astro Saber.

Thank you for the wonderful trip down memory lane.
I had an LTS2000 for a while and i remember it having an awesome receiver and great audio on our local city 800 PP Type 2 system. As the radio guy for our FD i also played around with a Visar PP that did type 2 ( those rare ones) and yup i had a man crush on that radio as well.
Its amazing how we have gone to P25 phase 1 and 2 and yet i would give it all up for that basic type 2 system. It simply worked well.

I'm glad others enjoy looking back as much as I do!

When I moved to Seattle in 2006, I heard my first Type II system. The sound of clean, clear analog voice with the clicks of comparators, etc. really left an impression on me. What a wonderfully engineered system it was.

I'm definitely going to miss the analog type II systems when they're gone. :(
