What's the approximate geographic area for that system? I've never heard or listened to it... largely because I have no idea where to listen and haven't ever gotten even a sniff of the CC.

I heard some encrypted radio traffic a few times. Now my scanner won't decode the control channel. The signal is really noisy. I'm at my friend's house near the Franconia Springfield Metro station in Virginia.

For those who like to hunt for new stuff on the band, the Motorola A73B UHF trunked system is replaced with a P25 system. Unknown who the users are (monitored over an hour and I have not seen any radios affiliated to it, but then again it's weekend)

Old System
Unidentified Federal Motorola A73B Trunking System, Washington, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

New System
System ID: 680
WACN: BEE00

407.4125 Control Channel
407.5625
410.1375
410.2875

Wow - 28 frequencies in that old system?

I had about the same signal strength around S3 in Arlington and in Rockville, so this can't be a single site system..

Copy that, so down towards the southwestern region of the DC metro area. Explains why I haven't sniffed it yet. Thank you.

It is a single site system as far as I have been able to tell. Transmitter is definitely on the Tysons Corner tower which gives it good coverage to both Arlington and Rockville. This is the same location where the system ID A73B Motorola trunked system was also located that it replace. No idea of user.
(Usually I can just barely detect the control channel on 407.4125 down here in Fredericksburg. Signals from that area got worse down here in Fredericksburg after the construction near the tower.)

I would have submitted to RadioReference but the submit page is not working correctly for me in both IE and Firefox.

Man that's a busy tower. Everyone and their mother's got an antenna on that thing.

Actually the number of VHF/UHF antennas may have decreased over the last couple years so if you have not looked at it recently you may want to. The Silver Hill tower looks like it may have more antennas. By the way, a lot of people think that Justice Dept. IWN has a site on the Tysons Corner tower that we are talking about. It is not, the IWN site is on the bank building just south of where VA 7 crosses I-95 (technically Falls Church), about 6/10 of a mile southeast of the Tysons Corner tower. The contractor who built the system had space in the building. So some operations attribute to the Tysons Corner tower are not at it.
