I bought a couple model T8530R talkabout radios at a yard sale and have a weird issue. When I press the ptt, both radios do the same thing. When I press the ptt, the radio transmits for a fraction of a second, and then quits transmitting, and the whole display lights up, even though I haven't let go of the ptt. Here's a manual for the closest thing I can find on the net. It's pretty much looks and acts like the same thing, same buttons and knobs in the same place:

Now when I say the whole display lights up, look on page 11 of the attached pdf. The radio transmits for a moment, quits transmitting, everything you see in that display comes on for a moment, then the radio just acts like it's receiving, even though like I said I have not let go of the ptt. The other thing it is not doing, and I have no clue if it's related, look at the last paragraph on page 24 where it talks about talk confirmation tone. That icon is staying on, and I can't toggle it off by following the instruction there. Every other menu function, the weather, changing channels and tones, etc, are all working fine.
I'm thinking I'm just missing some setting since both radios are doing it.
Any help would be appreciated.
