Galveston PD

I can't find Galveston PD in the database and the only sheriff I can find is for a different county. What am I missing?

I did find Galveston PD on what is said to be a deprecated system.

Yes, Galveston has been on what is now called TxWARN (previously STARNET, etc.) for almost a decade. They wrapped up the transition from TxWARN Analog 2318 to TxWARN Digital 1A7 at the beginning of the year.

I recently programmed Galveston County on my 436HP for Madi Gras. I found that Galveston transmits on TxWARN MOT and TxWARN P25. If they have migrated, they were still using "some" of the old talk groups.

Mardi Gras 2017

Friday, I will be headed to Galveston to Mardi Gras. Do I get drunk? No, I do not. Do I tolerate 420? Yes, I do. I have been attending this annual event for over 25 years. I have my 436HP programmed with a completely separate Micro SD card since I hate dealing with long Favorite lists. I am going to be monitoring the presence or absence of digital transmissions on the island. I love hearing people getting arrested, particularly when they are acting like a fool when drunk.

I smile when I think of the drunks who cannot hold their booze and how I deal with them, "the morning after." Believe it or not, there is a responsible way to party. For those inconsiderate inebriated bipeds who cannot hold their booze, I have a fun game. It is called, "Remove All Do Not Disturb Signs" on the morning after the big party. I chuckle when I think of those who are half-naked or those who cannot hide their contraband finding the police and/or room service coming into the room.

Galveston never disappoints me. I would never muck with one Galveston PD since they appear to be a formidable force.

So, I will report what I hear and record, provided it is worthy of posting.

So you assume anyone in a hotel room is drunk and checking out that day?

I'm sure the people who are working nights in a different town will love an idiot like you screwing with their sleep.

Hell, I've stayed in hotels where the housekeeping staff ignored the DND hanger and just walked right on in. Niiiiice 'n awkward, let me tell you.

LOL, my behavior does not fit the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for OCD.

Here is what happened.

Like a buffoon, I forgot to review the Galveston page to determine if there were any changes to the TxWarn P25 system. I received an unpleasant surprise the Friday night I rolled into town. I could hear Galveston using the GPS method; however, when they said "go to channel 3", it was dead. Then, I observed the dreaded "E" in the mode column. Since I have a 436HP, the "T" modes did not bother me. But, like all former great scanning cities like Ft. Worth, Texas, I will mourn the loss of the really interesting talk groups like Narcotics, SWAT, etc. These are now encrypted. The "T" mode talk groups sounded great on the radio. The modulation was very good.

Although it was not boring and the drunks didn't disappoint, I am going to expand my listening post to include more talk groups off the island.
