What does it mean when they call out "Guardian" over the air?

Those are the VIP escorts, busy with politicos these days as well as the POTUS.
And welcome to RR.
Steve

Thanks. I also, heard them say "Border King" tonight. What kind of CHP officers are those and what do they do in the field?

Thanks for the info. Its pretty tough picking up CHP but I have an ST-2 Antenna that I put up on my roof and it works like a charm. More metal the merry.

Cheers.

Los Angeles may be different than San Diego, but Guardian here is a biohazard cleanup company. They clean up blood and other body tissue, often from seriously graphic scenes (e.g. vehicle vs pedestrian on the freeway). There is another company called Patriot that does the same. Law enforcement agencies have contracts to use a certain company.

There is a 'Guardian Towing' service in San Diego that tows for police agencies.

CHP tow requests are usually fulfilled utilizing a rotation list of several companies but the need for a particular piece of wrecking/salvage equipment a particular company has, or AAA requests are examples where the officer goes beyond just requesting an 11-85.

Maybe that explains hearing Guardian requested on the radio

The times I have heard it used, it was the escort units that hpycmpr described. They report when they reach various checkpoints during the escort. When the OP said "call out", I believe he only meant that they say "Guardian" when they call the units on the air, rather than meaning that someone was requesting a business or service named "Guardian".

You were absolutely right. I bow my head in shame, I wasn't even close.

Guardian is a CHP motor detail that is involved in dignitary protection including escorting and securing the Presidential motorcade as needed.

I would assume (here I go again) that Secret Service is the lead agency for Obama Inc.however.

I had Guardian 6,8 and king pass me today on the 210. I followed them down the 605 where they got on the 10 going west. They had 2 Mary units with them that were running "mini" traffic brakes for them when they changed from the #1 lane to the right lane to take the ramps. 6 and 8 were normal interceptors. King was a black Escalade. It was easy to tell who was who because I could see the 2 Interceptors speaking on mic as they passed me.

W9xxxx,

Great info...for a UTAH guy. What freq. were they transmitting on Blue ? King was the Escalade ? That usually a I.D. for K9 . What was the I.D. of the King? Guardian King? If you could see them talk than you probably made them nervous...LOL

I don't think they would have even noticed me in my truck. Sitting 6 ft higher than than them makes it easy for me to see what's going on. I don't think the Escalade ever spoke. The back Interceptor was just saying things like "King is clear to move right." and things like that. I didn't see which Freq they were using because its kind of hard for me to see the screen 536 in the daylight.(It's mounted in a DIN slot in my dash down near my knee.) They weren't on my 15x which tells me it was a mobile freq. (I only have base on my 15x but both sides on my 536.) I continued south on the 605 and lost them pretty quickly as we separated. I hear the K-9 units often all over CA and it does seem weird to use a call like that for something like that. I'm actually in CA more often than UT. It seems that way anyhow. For So-Cal I have my scanners set up to monitor all the CHP and the 4 main counties and the LA hotshot and airships as I pass through them and roughly 10 miles outside their borders. It really helps avoiding backups and is pretty entertaining.
