Hello. I have a couple questions about a few things in 2 pictures I took yesterday in Timmins while I was running DSD+ Fastlane. I decided to try it on the Timmins Police which are Digital and Encrypted.

In the first picture where it says: NAC:293, that is the NAC code they are using (I am not too familar as to what a NAC code is) and after that it says: TDU, what does the TDU stand for.

In the second picture it says KeyID=4760, would this be the Encryption Key they are using and if I have a encryption board in a radio I am using and if I had or know of someone with a Keyloader, I or they just will enter that number (4760) into the radio and I will be able to listen to them. Just seeing if this is what that KeyID means what I saw and you will see in the second picture.

And just one other thing when I was running DSD+ fastlane and when a Private Call was being used, I now see it says these letters: OVCM in front of the Private Call in the Event Log box. Just wondering what OVCM means or stands for.

Let me know.

Thanks

If only they gave us the encryption key that easily! Some super secret encryption method that would be! Uh, no. The key is loaded into slot XYZ of the radio. The radio is looking up the appropriate key stored on the authorized radio in that slot number.

Ok so that KeyID doesn't mean anything to me then that showed up.

Well, it means everything to an authorized radio because that tells it how to listen to that transmission. To an unauthorized radio, it means that you can see the key ID being used. It's just metadata. If you watch long enough, you may discover that some radios use different key id's. Maybe patrol has one key but supervisors have another key to talk between themselves?

They are AES the KID just tells the radio what AES key to use to decode the transmission.

Ok just thought it was the actual enc key when I first saw it, but now I know it's not that. Thanks.

And in my first picture, what does the TDU stand for. Never seen that before and the same thing goes for OVCM when I see a private call show up.

Let me know.

Thanks

TDUs are sent just before the repeater unkeys. This tells the radios that the channel is clear for a new transmission.

for monitoring purposes its not important

64 BIT Key

Is this a 64 bit key?

011000 010001 011110 111010 100001 100110 010100 100111 100110 100110 1101

I am no expert!

yes 64 bit is 64 1s or 0s. Most do frame the information in 4 bit groups and then represent that in hex.

011000 010001 011110 111010 100001 100110 010100 100111 100110 100110 1101

0110 0001 0001 0111 1011 1010 1000 0110 0110 0101 0010 0111 1001 1010 0110 1101
