Just a message about what I observed yesterday in Iowa City about the JCOM system. I was on the eighth floor of the Veteran's Medical Center. I was trying to monitor JCOM. But reception was terrible so I removed the antenna from the BCD-396XT. It wasn't perfect, but it was a lot better. Where is the tx site in the downtown area of Iowa City for JCOM?

It is with sites all over the county. Anyone make a KMZ file for use with Google Earth? If no one responds I will muddle through making one.

The whole system is simulcast. I keep hearing the newest scanner decode simulcast better. I'm still using the 396/996 vintage scanners.

Here is a Graphic showing simuclast sites for both Johnson and Linn's Counties ECC 800MHz sites. Also a zipped file of a google earth KMZ file for locating the sites in Google Earth (most of which shows right at a tower site.

Seems like there should be sites in southeast and Northwest Johnson County.

I have a 396xt digital scanner and Johnson county blocked all digital signals. Does anyone know how I can unblock this?

You probably mean encrypted talk groups. No scanner will receive those.
Yes most of JCOM is encrypted ..............

There are quite a few talk groups a good digital scanner can receive

Law 1, & Law 3 are digital but not encrypted
Many of the fire talk groups are not encrypted
Fire Dispatch
Fire Ops
Fire Aide
Tac 1 & 2
J CountyEMA
IC Fire Dispatch and one Operations talk group

Event groups 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9

FYI a 396xt has problems with the Simulcast systems
