What's everyone using to mount these? Looking to keep costs low.

I made my own. The metal slides in between the center console and the dash.

Nice work

Thanks. Still trying to figure out what to do with the mic for the transceiver that doesn't look like a trucker with a swinging mic dangling from the mirror.
Also, I was going to paint the hardware as well, but I ran out of beer, and lost motivation.

Stick a mic clip on the mirror. I did it with my 8800 when I owned one. Sucks the mic can only plug into the control head

Thanks for posting those pics; nice install., As far as where to put the mike: buy 8 or 10' of mike cable and male & female connectors (ebay?), and build a mike extension cable. Fish it behine the window pillar trim, and mount the female connector at a convenient place on or under the dash.

But you may have to make another stop at the beer store. :)

Fair enough! Odd it actually came with a rear view mirror!

I'm guessing the federal government requires it, regardless of whether the vehicle needs it or not. It sounds like something they would do.

I think that's what I'm going to do. I was going to make one out of something like cat5 cable, but I realized that the pair for the microphone needs to be shielded from the rest of the pairs or it will pick up EMF noise, so I'll probably have to buy something like your suggestion.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm looking at scooping one of these. Will fit my needs perfectly although currently out of stock.

I have one of those mounts as well. Try HRO to see if they have one in stock. That's where I got mine. The only uniden specific thing on that kit is the clip that holds the scanner, the rest is off the shelf Ram Mount parts. So you could just buy the clip part from a scanner store, and get the other pieces from another source like Amazon or whatever.
