I am down in OBX for a vacation.

I am noticing some more encrypted talkgroups on the Dare County System.

14788 ENC
14728 ENC
14748 ENC
14571 ENC

I am also noticing radio id's of 29xxxxx operating on Law Enforcement talkgroups. Dare users appear to be 55xxxx. Any idea who the 29xxxxx users are? These talkgroups are encrypted so I can't listen in and determine who they are.

Good Luck with your trip.

Happy monitoring.

About the only thing you will hear is Fire & Rescue.

Everything else is encrypted.

Even the Public Safety Tac Channels.

Back from another trip to the OBX.

Brought down the Unication G4. It performed extremely well compared to my BCD436HP in the house that we were staying in.

The G4 performed worse with VIPER though. I could receive more "distant" sites with BCD436HP then with the G4 while in the house.

This has been my experience in southern NC also - particularly inside the house. Today, I'm watching the G4 selected site change on a regular basis over the three closest sites to my house. I'm pretty sure it's because VIPER isn't designed for in-building coverage.

My scanners are deaf inside the house without "proper" placement as well.

Outside the house and while driving all do fairly well.

...and now back to the Dare County channel.... :D

I only tested my G4 inside, when I was out I kept forgetting to take it. For Viper, I couldn't get Bodie Island, East Lake, or Stumpy Points on my G4 but could get it on my 436. I couldn't get Kitty Hawk Site on either the G4 or 436.

I was only getting 2 bars on my 436 inside on the Dare County system but was getting full bars on my G4.

Multipath distortion on Dare's P25 simulcast system is horrendous, hence why your G4 did so much better. Heck, even the country radios garble up bad here. Glad to know the G4 works well, I may end up upgrading to that sometime in the future for my feed here.
