Does anyone have any recommendations for interesting channels to monitor while in Newark. We just have the basic fire, ems, police sort of deal where I live so visiting a big city will we interesting to listen to but at the same time I will be only there for 2 and a half days and there are just so many different frequencies there is no way I will be able to monitor them all.

Forgot to add that I will be bringing both my BCT15X and BCD536HP so will be able to monitor trunked systems and P25 systems.

If you can monitor trunked systems, the State Police is pretty interesting. Northstar and Southstar are the Medevac helicopters. I usually have all the NJSP talk groups disabled except for those. The NJSP in general will always have tons of activity from all over the state, so choose your talk groups wisely.

Suggest, Newark Police, Fire & EMS, all in the data base, going to need a high end scanner however for Newark Fire. Happy Monitoring.

All the Newark PD frequencies are always very active. Also from Newark you can listen to the NYPD and FDNY frequencies.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Anything interesting on NY and NJ Port Authority or should I just skip it?

The eight Newark Police channels will keep you busy. What type of scanner do you have? Like Anthony mentioned,if you have one that can do P25 you can program the interop and get Newark Fire. Don't forget Essex County Sheriffs and SPEN 1.

Between Remcs 1 (EMS), Newark Fire (TDMA trunked off of NJICS sytem West Orange Tower), six Newark Police channels, and the Essex County Sheriffs Office channel it is going to be very difficult to keep up with all that is going on. Especially if you are not used to listening to the local lingo and ways of doing things.

Newark is much like any other major urban center, however the volume per size is greater than that of a Detroit (Newark has 1/3 less people, but at 1/6 the size).

Happy listening...but be safe while traveling through.

NJFF doesn't Newark use 9 channels? I wrote 8 but I noticed that they use 460.500 twice with two different PL tones for dectives and special events. I have to check my scanners and see if I have that frequency In there with the different pl tones. Might be missing out on some stuff.

Wow thank you those last three detective channels I've never knew about. There not in RR's database either. I have to program those three in,I'm sure they are very active. Just curious where did you get the last three?

Feel free, but I doubt it.

They came from my notes for the City (which indicate that they are not repeated). Bear in mind that my notes are a bit dated.

Unbelievable....Artie that Newark Police Detective 1 frequency 460.5500 with the 192.8 Pl tone....apparently I do have it programed in and tonight or I should say this morning...they are talking on it!!! So that information is correct.
