To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I have a P7200. I'm trying to program it for non affiliate trunking. I'm told I need RPM10. I purchased from a dealer, but he was then told the version I need (10b07) is no longer available from Harris. I called Harris, spoke to someone in Sales, and they mentioned the latest version should work to program non affiliate trunking. She can't CONFIRM. I sort of need to confirm - if I buy the software, I can't be stuck with it if it won't work.

Open to any suggestions.

Thanks.

RPM 11 and later will NOT work. A key file is required for anything trunking.

Ok - so I guess the 'version' is 1 but then the #'s after that is like 10? so what I was told is RPM 10b07 is actually RPM 1.10b07?

So any ideas on a dealer that will sell me the correct version? Want to make sure I get the right one :)

Thanks :)

There is now an RPM2, but it is only for the XL-200P (for now).

You need the original RPM (which I guess is "RPM1"), version 10 or earlier. I've never seen it referred to as 1.10.
There are a few large systems that required a key file even in that version (ROM1, v10) and earlier. There is a thread(s) here and over at p25.ca that describe it and list those systems.

Do you know what to search for for that thread? I doubt I need the key file, since the person who sold it to me (the radio) partially programmed a few talkgroups already on the main systems I monitor..

Not going to find it now as the site has shut down unfortunately. As far as I can remember it was at least a handful of statewide systems.

Never was a fan of p25.ca. They had too much attitude... Are they just down or permanently closed?

I'll look for the thread in google / archives... If it's just statewide systems, I'm good. None here in California (at least that I'm aware of).

Would RPM Version R9C work for what you are trying to accomplish? If so, send me a Private Message.

Dang. For the sake of the record here, 9C won't work, since radio has Phase II. Harris makes things so complicated LOL

Speaking of the p25.ca forum, I did a Google search today and found something strange in the first search result. Any one else notice it?

LOL! Nevermind I see it's already being discussed in the Tavern. My posts can be deleted if needed.

Does your P7200 have the Phase 2 option in it? If you are trying the Phase II RX trick without the option just be aware that it was found to only work on the more recent hardware models. And yes you will need RPM R10B07 with R02A26 firmware.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
I am a moderator at the communications support/P25.ca forum.

I do not know what's going on there.

I only know that the domain is parked as of right now.

I didn't visit there on a really regular basis, not being all that interested in playing the mod game day to day. I was not informed of any changes.

I'm not even going to speculate. I'll know what happened, when I know what happened, if I ever do.

I thought it was kind of odd that earlier releases of RPM had provisions for P25 data but they weren't fully implemented or useful yet.

It would seem to me that this is really not very sensible. Any feature included should work. If it doesn't work, include it in the next release where it DOES work.

"Here, captain, I've installed a control panel for the transwarp drive!"

"Scotty, we don't HAVE a transwarp drive! It's not due to be installed for three more years!"

"Well, it's a good looking console and I figured you'd like to look at it."

"Scotty, you're fired because you're an idiot."

Harris wasn't making things complicated.

RPM R10b07 was the first revision of the programming software application that supported Project-25 Phase-2 format.

R10a and earlier didn't.

Well yes - but RPM 10 is also the last version that allows non affiliate trunking, and now they no longer sell it :)

Not totally true... you can still do non affiliate trunking in new versions, but you need a system key now.
