• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is there any way to force a firmware update on a radio when it has Developmental Firmware on it ? I just bought a used XPR-5550 and didn't realize it had D firmware on it. None of my CPS will read it and I can't even read it with Depot software. Just says unsupported model ..

Thanks

I have a background in reverse engineering. Self-taught.

It's not the radio. It's the CPS. Find the code routine that identifies the radio types. When the code falls down to unsupported, it will return not with a zero but with a minus 1. The mother program should then cleanly shutdown the algorithm for talking to the radio and make that unsupported diagnostic appear.

I hear what you are saying, but no idea how I would find it. I have a Turbo Guru from France who was able to connect to the radio using a USB Redirect program but he has to find the correct boot loader to make the changes ..

You will need a software application that is usually available only to Moto depot service centers, and a firmware file that matches the model and tanapa number for your radio. CPS will only let you perform a upgrades, and only from and to specific versions of release firmware.

Depending on what you're doing, you may also need a jumper for the accessory connector that will boot the radio into bootloader mode. Not always required, but in my experience, you only need it when you don't have it :)

If you have access to these things, the process is easy. Most critical is to make sure the FW you're pushing is the exact match or you'll brick the radio.

Good luck.

Just noticed you've tried reading w depot - you may have to find an earlier version (V6 won't do it, usually).
