To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

I am new to the Vertex Standard line of radios having come from several different series of Motorola two-way radios over the years. I've come across a road bump that is really starting to give me a headache.

I have a VX-800 set up with five groups as such:
Group 1 has 16 channels
Group 2 has 11 channels
Group 3 has 10 channels
Group 4 has 2 channels
Group 5 has 9 channels

Group 1 will scan 13 of the 16 channels; group 2 will scan all 11 channels; group 3 will scan all 10 channels; group 4 will scan both channels and group 5 will scan nothing.

I've set up the scan as follows: in the main window where you set your channel information (frequencies, etc...), I have selected the channels I wanted scanned per each group and selected "DEALER". Under the "COMMON > OPTION" menu, I ensured that the scan list was set to "DEALER". Under the "CHANNEL > CHANNEL ALLOCATION / GROUP TAG" menu, I have ensured that Groups 1-4 have been selected to scan.

I have a toggle switch presently set to enable scan. However, it will only scan the group the radio is presently on and will not check the others. I've tried every possible solution I could think of and cannot get past this issue and I am wondering if I am doing something wrong...? When I have the groups set to SCAN - I notice two dots will appear under the group name when cycling through groups and ".SCAN" will appear when I have flipped the switch to scan. When I have the groups not set to SCAN, there is only 1 dot when cycling through groups (the dot representing the channel in that group is set to scan) and only "SCAN" appears?\

Here's what I am trying to accomplish for example: I enable scan in group 1, I'd like the radios to scan the selected channels in groups 2, 3 and 4 as well. Maybe this isn't possible and I'm misunderstood - or maybe there is some magic trick to get this feature to work? Or perhaps I have a faulty radio. I'd be happy to send someone the plug if they'd be interested in checking my work.

Thanks in advance to anyone who assists!

PS: I am using the windows-based CE-31 programming software.

SOLVED!

RESOLUTION TO ABOVE ISSUE

In case anyone else comes across this issue in the future; programmers should take note that individual channels should be set to scan for "BOTH" and the primary scan list should be set to "USER" to enable group scanning. When you assign a button to the scan function, pressing it twice shall enable group scan as displayed on screen as "-G SCAN-". Leave it to the OWNER'S MANUAL to tell the dealer (or individual) how to program the function...

Thanks to all who read this post.
