NOAA 162.550 off the air

Has anyone noticed that NOAA frequency 162.550 is not broadcasting. Been that way since Friday.

This is for S/E Michigan.

Can't receive on my weather radio or any of my scanners. Anyone know why?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully they will come back on line or a lot of people will be disappointed with the new weather radios they purchased this year. Mine is 6 years old and has been doing a great job.

The Crown and Armstrong brand transmitters I have seen the NWS use out here yonder, has full telemetry back to the NWS office. They should see right away any site alarms that may come up.

KEC63 162.55 not being heard here again today.

Amazing there isn't some kind of a back-up system in place.

KEC162.550 went back down at approx. 4:30 and is still down now (11:25 PM) again probably caused again by the storm we had this afternoon.

This is the longest that I can ever remember KEC63 being off the air. Back in the late 1970's there was a flood at the NWS office at Detroit Metro Airport in the basement area. It knocked out the telephone circuits, which took them off the air. However, Michigan Bell had them back in operation within 72 hours. Hopefully, the technicians will have them back online later on today.

Sounds like KEC63 is back on the air again this morning.

Been at least the better part of a week with problems.

The NWS office at White Lake has good elevation, about 1050' MSL, a transmitter and tower there would seem a logical backup... no phone lines to worry about. Just my random thoughts.

I know the NWR Plainwell site is up on the MPSCS tower at that location. It's my understanding that the NWS uses the MPSCS mircowave backbone to send the feed to WWF34, which is far more reliable than phone lines. Maybe the Detroit office should follow suit? I know the MPSCS is very happy to work together with the NWS to locate their transmitters on their towers.
