To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).
This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.
No not currently. Though many have speculated a future model may offer it, as usual with Motorola it would be a flash option with proper hardware present for it at a cost.
I know a few companies that pitched just a dual band VHF/UHF need to Motorola. They were told flat out that Trbo was cheap enough that they should just buy one of each band radio as needed.
Of course, if the industry threw enough money at Motorola, they would probably make one. This was several companies in the oil and gas industry. They still bought thousands of Trbo radios.
Its far cheaper to just built a system out for all bands needed at each location.
Even if Motorola offered it, it is likely to be only available on Apex portables…so still cheaper to build locations for IPSC across multiple bands.
Now there has been some rumor that a Tier III manufacturer will release a P25 firmware upgrade for their recently released 2nd generation of subscribers but currently that is only for a single band radio with multiple modes. It's cheaper for them to bridge their (dated) P25 subscriber's firmware from the old line to the new DMR line as their old line is a MPT1327 line that had P25 support added when the AMBE 2 chip had already replaced IMBE.
If they did make one it would be in the next line of multi band motorola gear. At this point budget mid level radios is gone. They would consider cost and r&d then other expenses to sales prior to going to it for production. While there is a market in some areas for trbo with public safety it is not as large as the p25 end. A few entities have asked of it. Maybe it will appear but don't expect to see it in any apx 8000, 6000, 4000 etc. It would have to be in a new line with proper hardware capable for multi mode multi band multi board. If it comes it will not be cheap and I can suspect it would be higher then the current APX 8000xe cost with nearly every whistle and bell enabled. Maybe a APX 9000\9500? Who knows. Itell be a new line for sure if it came with a hefty price tag and bulkier then the 8000xe. but I won't hold my breath to see it anytime soon.

The apex line is already hardware capable. AMBE 2 vocoder, phase 1 support means the ability to operate on a 4FSK modulation scheme (as C4FM is a 4FSK scheme) and the Phase 2 (which uses a quadrature modulation scheme) support means the transmitter is capable of keying quick enough to support DMR's operation.
While true we know how business is. Why make money off a firmware update when we can sell a new radio creating new contracts and costs for a agency who jumps on the latest and greatest bandwagon while phasing out a current capable model.

This is basically what the Moto reps at Apco said last week. They do not want to sell $600 DMR radios to LE. They want to sell $5000+ radios to them. They will not allow APX radios to do DMR even though it is physically possible.
No, saw it at APCO last week. But my friend who works for the city has one on his desk at work. He works for parks, & recreation, & the radio never leaves his desk, so it probably sees less abuse than a hotel radio.
