Just bought a Whistler WS1040 and programmed it with Win 500. The signal strength meter may barely flicker on a strong signal.

I restored it to factory default and tried it on the NOAA weather channels. The signal strength meter works fine. Program with Win 500 again and looked at NOAA weather channels. SSI was dead again.

Any ideas on what's going on? Thanks!

The default settings in Win500 is more for the PSR-500/600 and Pro-106/197. The newer scanners like the WS1040/1065 and Pro-651/652 have some different hardware and defaults, which result in things like the RSSI being wrong.

What you can do is set the scanner to factory default, Download from Scanner, and then copy the values from the Extended Settings tab over to your Win500 programming.

You can check out the http://forums.radioreference.com/radio-shack-scanners/304374-pro652.html thread for some of the default values were changed.

These are the stock settings from my new PRO-651. I experienced the same issue after using a Win500 data file that was originally done for my PRO-106.
