I just attended a rollout meeting today introducing changes to the RCS coming this month.

Rebanding will occur and have the RCS System moving from the 860 mhz. area to the 851 - 855 frequency range.

Fleetmaps will change as will many Law Enforcement talkgroups. There will be a renaming of a number of talkgroups and their usage.

There will be more encryption used but most Law Enforcement talkgroups will still be in the clear.

As things occur, I will address these as well.

Gene, thanks for the update. Are you saying that the rebanding will happen this month? This means that the controls will change?

Rebanding user reprogramming has been underway for a year, and will continue through the end of the year.

  • Some agencies have elected to modify their fleetmaps at this time.
  • Some conventional infrastructure is being retuned in conjunction with the subscriber retuning.
  • All 24,000 subscriber radios need to be retuned prior to the trunked infrastructure changing frequencies.
  • Many of the 'new' 851-857.25 MHz frequencies are still in use in Mexico, blocking our occupancy of the channels. We anticipate migrating some of the clear channels sometime in 2017, and the remainder after clearing by Mexico users.
So no, "rebanding" will not be happening this month.

I wonder how much of an improvement the scanning public will be able to notice due to moving away from direct interexistance (not a real world!) with Sprint/Nextel transmissions. Crossing my fingers!

Talkgroup Changes

For Sheriff:

Each primary dispatch talkgroup will have 3 corresponding TAC Talkgroups.

Example:

20 Tac 1 (formerly TAC 20)
20 Tac 2 (formerly INV 20)
20 Tac 3 (new with encryption capability)

Each Command can determine how the Tac Groups will be used.

Example:

30 Tac 1 - Vista
30 Tac 2 - Fallbrook
30 Tac 3 - Special details

INQS, INQN, and INQE will be combined and renamed SH INQ.

SO ADMIN will become SH ADM. ADM TAC will be a new TAC Talkgroup.

New digital CARS 5 will be available for direct use only.

LAW AIR will be renamed SD L/AIR. MED AIR will be renamed SD M/AIR.

CLEMARS will be renamed CALAW8.

CO CALL will be renamed SDCoCALL. Corresponding TACs will also begin with SDCoTAC 1) etc.

Lots going on in the rebanding world in San Diego, that's for sure. As K6CDO said, a long, drawn-out process.
