Hi all,
I'm using the BCD396XT for listening to a local P25 system, it used to work for a very long time.
A few days ago, I suddenly stopped hearing one my system channels. I see it recognise the channel activity, but there is no sound.
I've been checking the same system on a different scanner, and it works great. The site frequency is the same and there was no change the I know of in the system.
It seems like there is a problem with a specific number of channels, it's just part of the channels I used to listen to that stopped making any sound.

What can be the problem?

Agreed - whether this is conventional or a simulcast system will determine the advice to be offered.

Israel, it's a Motorola P25 system.

Okay, try this: Go to Search/Close Call options, select "Tone/Code Search", and then select "CTCSS/DCS Search". Then Press "hold" and directly enter the last known control channel frequency, and see if you hear anything at all.

If you do hear some type of noise, to back to "Tone/Code Search", and change it to "P25 NAC Search", and let us know what you see. If it's an active CC, you should see it constantly display "DAT" with no audio. Alternatively, if it's a P-25 voice channel, you should hear voice grants whenever that frequency is active along with a NAC code.

Also if you know the control channel frequency, and if you have the 396XT data cable, you should install Pro96Com (free software) and copy/paste the site file for us. That would help tremendously.

Hope this is what you asked for:

Hmm, so what scanner properly monitors the system? Also, what exactly happens with the 396XT when you try to scan the system? Do you hear any portion(s) of voice calls?

It appears that you are trying to listen to a Motorola P-25 Phase 2 system according to the information you provided. With that being said you will need a scanner that can decode and follow P-25 phase 2 protocol like a BCD996P2 or equal.

so in short, the system you were listening to was a p-1 system was changed to a p-2 system. isn't this hobby fun. so get yourself a bcd996p2 and you will be able to hear both p-1 and p-2 systems. these two scanners bcd996xt and the bcd996p2 program the same way.

Strange. It used to work fine for almost a year, and stopped working a few weeks ago.
Another thing is that I can hear couple groups, but not all of them like I did before.
When I put the scanner on 'Hold' on a specific site, I see it recognise the groups, but I hear no sound.

The BCD396XT used to scan it properly until 2 weeks ago. I could hear all groups. Now I can hear only a few groups, most of the groups a recognised, but without any voice.

it could be

the headphone jack.
much has been written about it here.
next time try putting in headphones or even a computer speaker.
if you get sound, you found the problem.
my 396T has done that since 2006 and the 396XT about a dozen times since 2012.
sometimes the sounds just wavers in volume.
good luck
