The first one I had like that was the Radio Shack Realistic Comp-100. That was I believe in the late 70's or early 80's. I don't know which came first, the RS Comp-100 or the Bearcat 101, but I think back as far as the 60's scanners were all still crystal based. The Comp-100 was an OK scanner, not great. Not very sensitive as I recall. By 1981 or '82 I had a Pro-2001, which was a better radio and could be programmed through the keypad. Seems like an ancient concept now, but it was revolutionary at the time. So was the Comp-100.
