BCD436HP/BCD536HP: Not receiving communications from local county

Hello all,

I am a new user and have a BCD436HP. I have found that I do not receive any police communications from my local county. I can receive ones from around my county though. Am I safe to assume that once I a put my zip code in that no other programming is needed? If so, then I am thinking that perhaps the stock antenna is inadequate. I wont know until I get my ICR6 and use the telescopic one that comes with that to see what I get with it. I do not want to buy a 500mhz/800mhz antenna unless it is necessary. I even tried doing a discovery to san those frequencies and nothing is received. Would anyone have any ideas? I appreciate the help.

Where are you? what system are you trying to hear?

Have you got the appropriate Service Types enabled?

The police communicattions in your local county are not encrypted, or use something like DMR, NXDN, ProVoice, etc?

I am in Nassau County NY. Nassau County Public Safety (P25). I have Provoice and DMR activated. Thanks.

Nassau County Public Safety (P25) Trunking System, Nassau County, New York - Scanner Frequencies

It appears a lot is encrypted.

Nassau County Police is encrypted
