Partial implementation of Australia and France bandplans

Hello,

I noticed the latest firmware as of this date adds Australia and France to the bandplan selections. It is not listed in the firmware changes and does not seem fully implemented.

I tried it out on my TRX-2. I could select Australia and save it. It was still the selection when I went into the menu again. However, when I cycled the power, it asked me to select a bandplan with USA, Canada, and UK being the only selection.

The EZ Scan PC Application for the TRX-2 does not support Australia and France for a bandplan. There is no selection for either in the drop down. If I read the config from the SD Card, the bandplan gets imported as USA.

It looks like a future enhancement escaped before it was completely implemented.

Hello,

I got an answer from Whistler. They are testing handhelds in the countries involved to see if they got the bandplan correct. It is not supported in a general release yet, so something to look forward to for when I travel down under.

Wife is French here and I want to take my scanner when we go visit her parents there. Will probably get my luggage opened by customs services because of it tho

Would be helpful if they published the Bandplans.

Would be a whole lot simpler if they implemented selectable stepsize and receive mode per band segment...

I've listed the U.S. band plan here, and effectively have reverse engineered the UK bandplan,which is also published here:

I 100% agree that a selectable step size and mode would make life much easier.....their omission makes the TRX-x models feel more like budget models but sold at high end scanner prices.

I wonder what the differences between the US and Canadian bandplan are? I know there are commercial radio systems in the 142 MHz and 420 MHz regions in Canada.

Having configurable mode and steps for the band segments makes sense. I can see the 3.25 KHz step size for UHF on the TRX series since it can decode NXDN. It is not as useful on the WS-108x/109x series.

Yes, and changing the VHF aircraft band back to 25Khz step increment. 8.3khz is useless...

Agreed, as I think we have both uncovered several instances of NXDN4800 users in particular using 3.125khz offsets from the center frequencies, to pack in more channels. But there is a positive and a negative here in how the TRX (in fact how all scanners so far) handle this: they all lack the sensitivity to be able to properly distinguish between adjacent 3.125khz channels: that's helpful when you're trying to search out different users, as the search speed on a wider bandwidth step will be faster. But it's a negative in that when you program in and scan adjacent 3.125khz channels, it will pick up all of them, and won't be able to distinguish between them unless you can assign specific RAN codes to filter out one from the other.

Personally, I'd still rather have a configurable mode/step size......I'd search using 6.25khz step size, but program channels to scan with the narrower - but more precise - 3.125khz step size.

:) My request for this has already been lodged with Whistler, as has the request to update the UK bandplan, and a bunch of other 'odd' but repeatable behaviors in decoding conventional NXDN.

TBH, the email conversation with the Whistler engineer just got plain weird when I pointed out repeatable instances where the 'E' and 'T' symbols would be displayed for non-Encrypted and non-Trunked signals respectively. Then Whistler just went into 'radio silence' mode when I asked if they access to a real NXDN transceiver to see if they could actually replicate the issues I'd observed. Seems an odd way to help narrow down potential bugs.

I would LOVE to get my hands on one of these, ONCE they support our band plan or offer changeable steps and modes.

...and respecting this is a Whistler forum, you'll probably find the Uniden x36HP models already offer all this capability, save for the fact that they don't decode NXDN [yet]

The UK band Plan is a mess.Very few allocation need 6.25 Khz spacing most just require 12.5 Khz.More importantly we really do need user selectable steps for searching.
I have forwarded this via the Whistler email link, no reply but we need to make our concerns known.
They need to ask user from the PMR industry not the dealers, many just don't have a clue, certainly not in the UK.

It is a mess, and I 100% agree that we really need a user-selectable steps for the TRX range. But there is a major growth in both 6.25khz and 3.125khz allocations these days. Both are increasingly used for NXDN4800 users on STH and JFMG channels, where dealers are finally realizing they can take advantage of 12.5khz licenses and squeeze in twice as many channels. Even 6.25khz steps on DMR are becoming more prevalent - the Western Power TIII network is all 6.25khz offset channels, and the ludicrous 5khz step size for the UK bandplan means the TRX can't even begin to decode it. If you're limiting your searching to 12.5khz steps, then you're probably missing stuff.
