• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I recently purchased a used Minitor V off ebay. Pager seems to be well taken care of and I did the programming myself. I've noticed, while the pager is on monitor, that it has frequent periods of open squelch. I notice this mainly while driving in the car. Before I sent it for repair, does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? Or if I could adjust something in the programming to correct this. Thank you.

Have you tried to adjust the squelch?

Is this pager SV or non-SV? One or two channel model? Please post the full model number. On the V's, it's on a sticker under the battery. (For others who read this thread, when asking about a problem like this, it is pretty much imperative that you give the full model number of the unit you are asking about in your opening post. In many cases, without that information, any answer you might get would be speculation or a WAG.)

Is this behavior random, or does it happen on some kind of regular basis, like after every alert.

But, as bk117 points out, you can adjust the squelch threshold in the PPS. Model Options tab --> bottom of the window.

Just be aware that Motorola no longer provides Depot repair of the V's. There are some dealers that will work on them, and others send them out to a large dealer in the mid-West.

It is a UHF, 2 channel, w/SV Minitor 5. Model number as requested..RLE1082B.

The squelch comes at random on the monitor mode. It will come and go come and go. If the pager is on monitor for 10 minutes, 4 of that will be constant squelch.

I thought it was a reception issue but that seems to not be the case.

I considered adjusting the squelch, but I am not sure what that would do. It is currently set to 3, which is what all my other pagers are programmed to, with no issues.

You say it happens mostly when you are in your car. There may be something in your car generating some type of RF noise being picked up by your pager. Tightening the squelch may be able to filter it out.

That is not the model number. It's on a small label under the battery. It should start with A04KMS9239 with a couple of letters on the end.

Adjust it up or down and see what it does. If you adjust it one way and it stays the same or gets worse, adjust it the other way.

Every pager has a squelch threshold, but they can not be counted on to all be exactly the same. That's why there's an adjustment right in the PPS.

If you can't get it to work properly with the squelch adjustment, it's probably time for a trip to the shop.
