I'm new to Ham (currently studying for Tech). I purchased a Yaesu FT60 to start familiarizing myself with its opperations. I plugged in the NOAA frequencies (162.400 - .500) but I can't get NOAA to come in. I suspect the NOAA signal is strong so I assume I'm doing something wrong.

Do I need to be in a special mode or something?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chuck

It did.

Did I read it cover to cover yet? No

Was I hoping to get some friendly guidance so I can jump start my experience? Yes.

The range you listed 162.400-.500 is not all 7 channels. There are also WX transmitters on 162.525 and 162.550 so check those.
If you Google NOAA NWR you should find their website with the coverage maps.

You didn't tell us your location so I'm unable to reference weather
station frequencies in your area. I assume you are doing a limit
search, 162.4-162.5. You might want to search 162.4 - 162.6
There are weather channels on .525, .550, 575 etc.

Ok. I set the scan from p 39. I also found on p 34 how to get directly on to the NOAA settings. However, I still can't receive the NOAA broadcast. Thoughts???

Thanks, W3DMV. I'm in CT. I'm going though all of those frequencies as well as using the pre programmed NOAA stations that were already set. I still can't receive the NOAA broadcast. I have a handheld marine radio and it receives NOAA fine. Odd??

Is the freq range you posted correct?
If so, you are missing 162.525 and 162.550.

edit: W3DMV and Thunderkinght beat me to it.
