Interesting. What are they doing with the UHF FB2 they got 17 years ago, and the new UHF FB2 they got a year ago??

Its weird that they would go VHF when the towns they work with are UHF (Shelton & Monroe) and Trumbull has 2 UHF FB2s and all UHF portables already.

UHF freqs.

Are used for fireground commo only, only 15 W max, no FB indicated on FCC license.
I just wanted VHF freqs for future ref.

I can understand that reasoning. Many of the cities in the Fairfield and New Haven Counties continue to operate on the VHF band. It seems to me to go to another band would be the EXCEPTION rather than the NORM.

Also over the years the VHF band has proven itself to be quite reliable when operating on the fire ground. Other bands, particularly with the latest systems, have demonstrated a history of issues while operating under load noise conditions such as saws running etc.

In addition, Trumbull FD responds frequently to the Merritt Parkway along with the nearby Stratford FD. Stratford FD is also on the VHF band as well.

They also border Fairfield and Monroe as well but they are both on UHF.

Mission accomplished

Thx. for all replies. Trumbull is just trying to get off the low band (no service, no parts, no updated equipment).
Eventually a trunking system. For now, $150K was authorized for interim use, hence the high band license. Just wanted to be able to show new freq's. in RR database.
Regards to all,
JohnO

The 2, FB2 UHF are 453.2375 & 460.0625

The only way you could do trunking where you are is go on the UASI system.$$$$$$$$$

From what a friend in Trumbull tells me PD is almost done with their new system (sounds nice, 9 site simulcast), DPW is installing their new system now (UHF MotoTrbo looking at the license) and EMS just upgraded,
So FD is on an island and missed the boat.

After all that it was put in the Database backwards...The 155.9625 is the output if you want to listen.
it has always had low audio, Hope they fix that someday as the coverage isn't bad

There are still companies they make and maintain parts for low band equipment. Kenwood comes to mind first.

Here is my opinion whether you want it or not.... I think that UHF would be a much better choice for Trumbull. From my own experience, most career FD's dont call volly's so having Bridgeport and Stratford available in your radio isn't as important as your neighboring volunteer departments who rely on you more. Keep in mind I have no idea how often you guys work in that area. Now that multiband radios are available it's not such a big deal to get a V/UHF radio.

If you do go to trunking you maybe pushed to a certain band because of frequency availability. I'm guessing you would want a 5 channel TRS or less if TDMA/Phase II. No matter what - good luck with the system.

Ova here
Let's all just face the facts here. Trumbull already has the VHF high band repeater system in place now for several years and they are expanding on it to cover the whole town, not just the Center district. Also too it comes down to availability of frequencies in the area that will not cause interference / bleed over to adjacent agencies and business.

We can argue what is better until we are blue in the face, the fact is the plans are more than likely in place and they are moving forward.

And as for Bridgeport/ career not calling in vollies, they have because of the Fairfield county mutual aid plan in the past. Long Hill has gone into B-port as well as Shelton before, but not often. So to even make a statement not having those frequencies in a radio especially since they are right next door is asinine, sorry to be blunt.

It's not our place to be making decisions for another town's needs.

This thread is pretty much over.
The high band VHF frequencies are now listed. The only thing to add is the PL, which is DCS311.

Just curious, what kind of other “services” besides PW is that frequency used for?
