If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey y'all, im using a a PMAD4068C VHF+GPS antenna on my XTS5000. Its works just fine but is it possible since it also has GPS in the antenna to use the GPS on the XTS5000? Or more importantly will it damage the PA on my radio?

Thanks!

It just has the frequency to receive GPS as well. It won't do anything adverse to your radio. It's the same thing as having a dual band antenna but only using one band.

The newest MotoTRBO portable rubber duck antennas ARE NOT compatible with XTS radios. For some strange reason, Moto decided to change the connector to a proprietary design and are not using SMA-Female connectors. The reverse is true as well.

Do NOT interchange these antennas... you might damage your radio. You will certainly damage a XTS antenna if you try putting it into a MotoTRBO radio.

The discontinued MotoTRBO portables still use the SMA-F connector and should be fine.

He's already using one on his radio so we already know it's the correct one that fits.

I was aware of Motorola's bone headed decision to change to a different connector for the XPR 7550 series of radios but as I said I am using a PMAD4068C which from what I can tell it apart of the old 6550 series. My chief concern was that the MotoTRBO antenna although the correct connector was also a GPS antenna along with VHF so I wasn't sure if it had a modal or chip in the antenna itself that might damage my radio's internal PA.

I have been using a UHF XTS antenna on my XPR6000 series radios for years, so it should work the other way around.

I've got a 7/800 antenna on a XPR6580 at the shop. Beats the dong of an antenna the radio shipped with (since we don't use gps on the Connect plus system).
