I was wondering if anyone has had any personal experience using a coupler that hooks up their standard AM/FM auto antenna to both their AM/FM car radio and their scanner. I have found two commercially-made products that appear to be very similar in design. One is the Para Dynamics PDC63 (ANT63MOT, AM/FM AUTO ANTENNA SCANNER COUPLER WITH MOTOROLA CONNECTOR - Scanner World - The Largest Dealer of Scanning Radios in the World) and the other is the Antenna Specialists MON-63 (https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanants/0748.html). (FYI I would change the Motorola connector going to the scanner to a BNC connector to avoid the use of any adapters.)

I currently use a rubber duck in the car and I'm wondering if this coupler would work any better by getting the signal from outside of the car's interior. I'm mainly interested in monitoring VHF-High and UHF/UHF-T.

I understand that a separate mobile scanner antenna would certainly be the BEST solution but I'm willing to trade off some performance for the possible theft prevention, convenience and aesthetics of using the existing AM/FM antenna that is already on the vehicle. Any real-world experience that you have had with either of these devices (or similar designs) that you could share would be appreciated.

That should work fairly well for the VHF band. Some loss for the UHF band and keep in mind you will loose signal strength on both the scanner and the FM receiver do to losses in the splitter. I would say it has to be better than the rubber duck inside the car.
