Well, at least that's a beginning to get them away from the NDXN island that they were on (maybe if only just a foot off the island). The lack of interoperability due to local use of NDXN was a major complaint/criticism of the mutual aid responding agencies to the Fall 2016 Wildfires.

You're right about that. Using these other digital modes makes things harder to interop. Linking takes time and until then your only option is analog or have dispatch relay. It's great that they're going to P25. That will give them more able to talk to the state and other agencies. The fact they are going to 800 Mhz is the only downfall. Hopefully, they will go with the 7000 or 8000 radios so they can have VHF.

Hmmm NX5000 will be best as it does multi mode nxdn and p25 and analog.

Not exactly. That radio isn’t dual band and NXDN / DMR shouldn’t be used by public safety. It would be smarter for them to go with the 7000/8000 series that can support multiple bands and have P25 which is what they should be on. I see what you’re hinting too tho. There are all these other counties that are on these other digital modes and the likelihood of them moving off of them is slim. Sevier County is leasing this system they are on now which gives them more ability to pick up and move. I think Kenwood made a good product with the NX5200 series, I just wish they would have incorporated dual or all band.

It is nice to see that both EFJ/Kenwood and iCOM (Who originally stated they would NOT support DMR, or P25 and only do NXDN/iDAS) now both have multimode offerings, but yeah multi band would be better... We do know that one county is rolling with the NX5000 series so that they can add TACN to the lineup with the current NXDN, and DMR they use. Unfortunately the iCOM offering is only in VHF, and UHF.... No 700/800 options there yet. Yes, the APX series does give best flexibility for TACN, and analog/P25 conventional in multi band but,... No DMR or NXDN cross compatibility in that as it stands now. The guys are getting closer, but no cigars out there yet lol.
