If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was wondering for those of you with the MD 2017 and/or MD 380 radio by TYT, is it possible to program a channel with multiple frequencies and a scan function between those like is possible on the Motorola XPR 7550? I would like to use it as an analog only scanner for my conventional frequencies.

If you are doing analog scanning with multiple frequencies, you don't set a channel with multiple frequencies. Program all your channels in like normal and assign all the ones you want to scan to a scan list and link it to your channel (or channels) you want to scan from. Then when you press scan you'll scan all the analog frequencies tied to that list. So if your position 1 is "City Fire Disp" and then you add "City PD" and "City EMS" and then add all three to the "City Scan" list, add "City Scan" to each of those three channels, then no matter which of those three you're positioned on, when you press scan, you'll monitor all three.

Look at the video here.

Will either of these two radios allow me to do that? Also, can I lock specific frequencies out to where I cannot accidentally transmit on them?

Another question is about the DMR functions of these radios. Can I scan DMR systems with these radios without my radio associating and lock those out as well for no Tx?

I know the MD380 will allow you to. That's what the video is about. As far as locking out Tx, yes you can. Just check the box for Rx Only.

As far as DMR with no association, I'm not sure. Perhaps someone will chime in about that later. All of my digital systems I'm allowed to associate with so I don't need to worry about that. Hopefully someone will come along with that info. But even with digital you just check the Rx Only box to make it not allow you to transmit.

The MD380 doesn't do Tier III so there's no need to be "associated" with a Tier II system to scan it. On ham networks there are certain talkgroups that are retransmitted by any given repeater only when a user on said repeater activates them.
