• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Going from DTR Radios to cheapies - looking for a decent speaker/mic

NOTE: this is not a discussion about one radio brand vs another, but the accessories.

I had tons of DTR Radios and used the fairly common HMN9026 speaker/mics which were great!

The radios I’m using now, Baofengs (hold your comments on the brand! ;-)) use a Kenwood pinout and the Moto speaker/mics don’t fit.
The suggested speaker/mics for the Baofengs are crappy plastic thin-sounding speaker/mics. The Baofeng audio through the radio is fine, so I’d like to find some used quality speaker/mics that are of the quality of the Moto speaker/mics.
I was able to find these quality Motos for $10-20 each used on eBay, but cannot seem to find or figure out what an equivalent quality speaker/mic would be with the Kenwood pinout.
Even a lot of the new Kenwood speaker/mics are tiny and thin sounding (like the SMC33/34) and a lot of the new bigger ones cost more than the radio!

I’ve bought a few Chinese $10 - $15 speaker/mics just to try out and they’re all crap.

Hoping someone may have found which used Kenwood compatibles are decent and has a suggestion.

Thanks!

Kenwood KMC-45

Thanks. I’ve looked at that one.
Hard to find authentic ones used at a decent price, and there’s tons of Chinese knock offs so hard to know if you’re definitely getting a real Kenwood.

What I did with mine is opened up the speaker/mike and pulled out the mic condenser and drilled a hole in the center of where the mic condenser sits in, then reassemble it. Major improvement.

Good idea. I have a bunch so I might try that.

I hate these cheap speaker/mics. You have to speak right into a pin size hole or else the mic does not pick up your voice. I am accustomed to motor vehicle two-way radio type mics where you don't have to be so careful about the position of your mouth or mic. if anyone knows of a quality palm held PTT mic with a SINGLE pin 3.5 or 2.5mm size, speak up. Oh, I forgot. It does not have to be a speaker/mic combo as I have a good external speaker.
