• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, just wondering if anyone else thinks the volume is low of these radios. It's a lot lower than our PR-400 radios. Does not hater if it's the radio speaker or mic speaker. Is there something in the programming that can make this better?
Thanks for the help.

My XPR6550 is pretty loud, I could hear it loud and clear in a jump seat of a truck, sitting next to a Detroit Diesel 8v92. I'm pretty sure I just have the standard AGC on.

I have a 7550 and that’s one of my major complaints. My HT1250 and xts2500 can blow it away in terms of max volume.

Use the tuner software and increase the softspot adjustment. I've dont this to match the XPR series radios to the HT1250's

AGC is for the mic not the speaker

I have also noticed that the radio has a slightly lower mic volume. I have not used it in a loud environment yet but I feel like my HT1250 is louder.

Would this work on the xpr5550 alert tones?
The talk permit tone, voice announcements. The RX volume is fine as I've already boosted it.

Alert tones can be increased within the radio.
Menu<Utilities<Radio Settings<Tones/Alerts<Vol. Offset

My 6550 is pretty darn loud. When I use it for events I can walk through a large indoor crowded room with huge amounts of background noise and still hear the speaker mic pretty well.
