Went down 12/26-27 to do some ship/plane/train watching, but not much air/sea action.

Did pick up a few random things:

157.225 [173.8] (Marine Ch-84A) - barges being delivered and taken out. The PL tone is consistent, and I get it every visit. Judging from where I hear it, and nature of traffic, I suspect Craney Island Fuel Depot. Norfolk Tug does semi-regular runs between there and Little Creek.

161.070 [NXDN48 RAN=0] - Lamberts Point Coal Terminal. Most talkative ever. Mention of #2 loader and a dumper. Sounds like mechanical work. This freq was formerly used by Pier 5, but it sounds more like maintenance for Pier 6.

160.305 [CSQ] - Lamberts Point Coal Terminal. Listed years ago as "Pier 6A". Pier 6 has two loaders, and according to NS literature NS stations someone on the ship's deck to work with their officers for satisfactory loading. Traffic I heard was consistent with this.

161.250 [CSQ] - Incoming work train. Mention of "Government Yard" They went into the southernmost track available.

462.225 [DMR] - Elizabeth River Tunnels. Was unaware of this one. It's one of the BF888 test freqs that I was checking at VA Beach Oceanfront. (staying at the Marjac) Sounds like conventional use with TS1/TG1001 being Downtown Tunnel, and TS2/TG1002 being Midtown Tunnel. CC1 for both slots.

Radio check between 10:00 & 10:15p. ID's as follows:

TG 1001 (CC1/TS1) (all involving Downtown)
10 - "???? Street"
14 - Berkeley Plaza
15 - sounded like "405" or ".....Supply"
17 - Station 1
18 - Station 2
19 - Station 3
20 - Station 4
21 - Station 5
27 - Berkeley Bridge
29 - Downtown Tunnel (base) conducting the radio checks
38 - Downtown Tunnel (base) talking to 'stations'

Recorded mid-day Wednesday in Norfolk:

TG 1002 (CC1/TS2) (all involving Midtown)
11 - 'ISB' or 'SSB'
16 - Pinners Point (mention of 'debris run?')
23 - '15' (?) to Midtown (could've been mistaken for 16)
24 - '15' (?) to Midtown (could've been mistaken for 16)
31 - 'Midtown' base stn (not used as much)
32 - 'Midtown' base stn (the most use)
40 - 'AC Plaza' ? to Midtown (also possibly a 'debris run'
55 - unknown 'switching to tactical 1'?

I recorded Downtown from Virginia Beach around 10p and it was pretty readable. Recorded Midtown from Teppanyaki on Tidewater Drive mid-day, and audio was universally poor. They also participated in the 10p radio check, but my scanner was mostly capturing TS1/TG1001

This caught me by surprise, so I didn't get to check 461.675 or 463.2375 to see if they're still in use and in the same way.

160.335 [d156] - NS. This had been listed as the TOFC (intermodal) facility at Portlock, but sounds at least as strong at Lamberts Point. Sparse transmissions, so nothing conclusive. Not sure what the status is of that trailer yard because there's also a J.B. Hunt facility there and I'm wondering if trailer loading is still a railroad op. Head mention of containers on 160.080 [d413] very strong nearby.

451.750 [d411] - Freq listed for IMTT in Chesapeake, but not confirmed.

I really like it--particularly the recording thing. Wish I could swing an extra one to record full-time

For those interested, it looks like Norfolk is hiring for a radio communications system senior person. https://www.governmentjobs.com/care...t-senior?page=7&pagetype=jobOpportunitiesJobs
