• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

NOT A MAJOR DEAL BREAKER, BUT TAKE PLEASE SEE MY NOTES.

Version effected 1.20 KPG-D3NK

RESULTS: ENCRYPTION ISSUE

BUG: PORTABLES CAN'T BE ASSIGNED A KEY ID FOR STANDARD ENCRYPTION INFORMATION
OR USED WITH OTHER EXISTING RADIOS WITH KEY ID KEYS GREATER THAN "0", TRUNKING OR
CONVENTIONAL.

RESULTS: NX-3720/3820 MOBILES CAN BE ASSIGNED KEY ID, WHERE-AS PORTABLES CAN NOT.
THE RESULTING ISSUE IS PORTABLES RETAIN KEY ID "0" AND THE KEY DATA THAT IS ENTERED.
IF THE MOBILE KEY ID IS ANYTHING OTHER THAN "0" , THE PORTABLE WILL NOT BE DECODED.

TESTED RADIOS: NX-5300, NX-3320K2, NX-3820HGK, NX-5800, ICOM 6021D, NX-300, NX320

TEST CODE: KEY DATA 12345, KEY ID 0, TG 1
TEST CODE: KEY DATA 11223, KEY ID 1, TG 1 (2 SEPERATE PROGRAM CODE PLUGS)

TEST 1: 464.550, RAN 1 VNFM, TG 1 GROUP CALL SET.
TEST 2: TYPE C TRUNKING SYSTEM, GROUP CALL 1

TEST 1, DATA 12345, DECODES CORRECTLY ACROSS ALL RADIOS

TEST 2. DATA 11223, ALL BUT THE NX-3320K2 DECODE, NX-3320K2 CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER
BUT ALL OTHER DEVICES DO NOT DECODE RECEIVED SIGNALS

SIMPLE FIX: PROGRAM PORTABLE KEY DATA AND MOBILE KEY DATA AND USE KEY ID "0" TO
ENABLE PROPER ENCRYPTION DECODE BETWEEN PORTABLES AND MOBILES, AND OTHER NXDN RADIOS UNTIL REVISED SOFTWARE IS MADE AVAILABLE.

TESTED: 01-12-18 EFM
SUBMITTED TO KENWOOD, 01-12-18, FOR TESTING AND REVIEW.

ANY RESULTS FROM OTHERS WELCOMED IF FOUND TO BE DIFFERENT FROM BENCH TEST.

In further investigation, the results are as follows:

On the global options / security menu, the table labeled scrambler / encryption
the box labeled nxdn, with type of encryption, you must check key scan to
enable the key id field even if you are using one key, and the id is greater than 0.

Not mentioned in the help file, but this is how it works.
