• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You stated you left the frequency out.....I wonder what else the purpose of having 550 in the title would be..lol :p

I made a post about one similar on the MyGMRS forums, the repeater was promptly taken down off the website listing. Whoever posted it made a real fool out of themselves the way they worded the description..

Yet, when I pointed out the illegal FRS simplex repeaters, as well as, a couple of Digital Repeaters listed on their site at the time, they locked my account and flagged my IP so I can't even view the forum anymore. Called me too snarky for the site.

Last I checked (last month) the local simplex repeaters were still listed brazenly as simplex repeaters. The actual FRS freq is listed in the comments. They've known for well over 6 months that there are illegal repeaters listed and yet they have done nothing.

Don't feel all alone on this.... You are not the only one this has happened to.... At least you were called snarky which is still better than argumentative and having anger issues..... seems like anyone that states a fact that goes against the staff/owner over there they're treated all the same...

Interesting that it is yet another illegal repeater being put up under the guise of C.E.R.T. Not familiar with P25 repeaters in the area yet. I say yet because a local Ham is planning to put up an analog repeater and eventually a P25 and states that it is for C.E.R.T. (Yes, my snarky side will probably show in this post.) Thus, the reason that I will have to move my legal GMRS repeater since he already listed the analog on myGMRS (like that makes it legal and gives him exclusive use of that channel).

I've posted in the past about the 4 illegal simplex repeaters, all run by licensed Hams. One is brazen enough to use his call sign on the morse ID every half hour. 2 are supposedly for CERT.

They know they are illegal but feel that being CERT gives them the right to violate FCC regulations. Verified by a discussion I've had with them in the past. Even though the CERT comms powerpoint on the FEMA site specifically states that it is illegal to extend the range of FRS radios using external antennas or simplex repeaters and that any one using GMRS must have a license IAW the FCC rules. (With the new regs that translates to Wideband and more than 2 watts.)

Point is that people get on the chaos on FRS/GMRS but all of the violations that actually are causing issues in the area are being done by licensed Hams. It's worse when they feel that the title CERT (Emergency / Disaster Relief, Emergency Communications) makes it okay. (some kid playing with a 2 watt handheld or even a 4 watt BaoFeng doesn't really affect a legal license GMRS user much )
