If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm thinking about getting a TK-760 G VHF to replace the Chinese crap radio that I have currently. I plan to use it in partly in the ham VHF band, but the frequency range (according to the seller) is 148-174 MHz. Is there a way to get it to go down to the 145-147 range?

Im doing a look up on it, but as you may have been told, it is no longer available.

More info in a few, looking at parts for it.

I found several of them in eBay in the VHF split, I'm just wondering if they are worth getting because of the frequency split

They will go down to 144MHz no problem. The software will complain, but will allow it. TK-760-G will be 25w, TK-760-H-G will be 50w. Solid radios with excellent full sounding audio, in my opinion better than the TK-7180/7360 ect. And NX-700 plus others that have the same chassis/controlhead with the front firing speaker.

As well the control head on the TK-760 can be flipped to change the speaker firing direction.

The only limitation I had with that series was it only has 128ch and the display is 8 character and segments not dot matrix. With over 400 resource road/oilfield channels in BC/Alberta, it was just not enough channel capacity for me.

So the website (dealers site that is) I can not get parts for it anymore.
You looking for something better than a beau-FART, I can offer you some suggestions,
from low tier models with DMR, to the high tier with P25, DMR add on, and standard with NXDN (NX-5000)

I am a ham friendly seller. There are a few shops in S.C. I can get you in-touch with also.

Might want to consider that, start fresh, build as you go. NX-3000 series not a bad option either.
Warranty and ALL THAT!.

Great radio. If it did not have the display and channel capacity limitations I would still be using one today.

Good call.

Another option would be the TK-7180 but they are long in the teeth, and are likely to be EOL if they have not been yet.

Too bad. They are being EOL but the garbage TK-X170/3173/X360 is not. SMH

Thanks for that.

The software is easy to use for majority of Kenwood LMR. Way better than Motorola, and also easy to ‘find’

Thanks for the tip, I was thinking about getting a brand-new radio, but I really don't need digital, high channel capacity, or a huge display line. I'm planning on getting the high-power model. The only reason I'm getting this radio is that the transmitter went out on the Chinese crap radio lol

These radio are not that far fetched.... Look at the NX-3000, does Analog, and you can go digital at anytime.

Once you have 12+ characters, you will wonder what you did before! I know I hate anything less than 12 characters now. My V71a 6 characters drives me bonkers.

The other advantage of the NX-700/5xxx/TK-x180 mobiles is the remote head kits. There is no remote kit for the TK-760

Edit: not sure if there is a remote option for the NX-3xxx mobiles.

Does anyone know if I can program the TK760 with CHIRP? I heard that it is supported, I just wanted to verify that
