• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have been trying to program a group of HT1250s that I have. When attempting to read the radio I get the following error:

"80040154: Couldn't createinstance on the device after getting UUID"

CPS version is R06.12.02 and the models are all AAH25SDF9AA5AN.

Anyone have any idea what this might be? I've never seen this error before. I also have an older version of CPS as well but that says unsupported model. The radios state that the software version is R05.14.00.

If it says unsupported model it is probably a Europe, Asia, or other Non-American version of the HT1250 housed in an HT1250 housing. When you try to program one of these versions with the American version of the software it will usually give you a region error and you will need to get the CPS that corresponds with that version of radio (next to impossible). Where did you buy these radio's from?
Keep in mind I could be completely wrong and this is just my attempt at trying to help you.

What Windows version are you using? an online search seems to suggest a Windows error. Suggestions included using XP to program.

I have run into problems depending on the model of the laptop or computer. Our Panasonic Toughbooks won't do it on 64 bit but are OK on 32 bit some Dells are the same hit and miss. If you want to be sure it works use a 32 bit and XP-SP-3. Never had a problem with that combination, or use VM.

BTW we use serial ports only, no USB.

For the record, this laptop is an old Dell Inspiron with a serial port. I've been using this laptop to program CDM, HT and MCS series radios for probably 8 years without much of an issue, except the odd error here and there. Usually related to needing newer CPS. But this is the first time getting this error. It's possible it's 32 bit not 64, I'll have to double check.
