Tightly coil the cable around a metal rod of the same diameter as the inner diameter of the individual coils. Heat the rod up enough soften but not completely melt the cable's outer jacket. Then allow to cool before handling the cable.
I think this trick of "ironing" the cable is how the cable was originally coiled at the factory. I've never tried this but it might work. It's still easier to simply replace the cable.
