• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does anyone know where to get ICOM's re-crystalled and temp compensated?

I have a Mastr II that I'd like to put on the air at a high RF site. ICM used to provide this service, but I haven't found anyone else since they went out of business.

Not sure why this got moved from amateur radio to the Motorola forum. The crystals I am referring to are a GE product and a build of a amateur repeater.

But, any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

There was discussion about this on the Mastr II Yahoo group not too long ago. I can't find it on my phone right now but I will look later on the desktop. I think there is only one company doing it now.

Thanks, Dave! That would be very helpful.

From what I understood, there was one guy at International that did comps on channel elements and ICOMs. Hard to believe that only one guy was left doing that. He aged out, and that's part of why they shut down. So says the rumor mill.

Ask on the Repeater Builder Yahoo group and see if anyone has ideas or knows how to do it. I don't think it's much more complicated than selecting the right value of NPO capacitor, but it's gotta be temperature cycled.

I don't know of anyone using rock bound radios for repeaters anymore for just this reason.

They won't compensate (I was told that, not confirmed), Bomar won't either. I guess I could use a crystal heater but I'd rather not go that route.

Thanks, ZZ.

OK, info I can find from about a year ago. I have not dealt with any of them so can't vouch for anything. First link is for a external crystal heater but that is generally for "already drifty" icoms....EDIT... I should have read the damn article first. I thought it was a slip-on type of oven deal. NOT SO, It's a rebuild of a EC icom to provide an oven inside the case. Nice.

MASTR II ICOM rebuild and temperature compensation

Another manufacturer but probably can't comp your elements. Can always ask though...

Cal Crystal is now Transko:

Quartslab was mentioned as being in the UK in the list, ZZ has provided the link for them.

Shockingly enough, Bomar was / is still around. They said in a e-mail (a year ago again...) they were not doing temp comp service but they "might" in the near future. Worth a call or e-mail

If all else fails, I have 2 sets of Mastr II elements left crystalled in the UHF ham band. ICM crystals. A friend of mine did them in the late 90's. I cannot remember if he did anything to comp them but they performed well for eons. Gave away all of my GE stuff finally in February, These plus other elements in the commercial band all I have left.

Hope any of this info helps.

Dave
