BCT15X: No power after plugging in external speaker

I have a BCT15X that was working fine, then I plugged in an external speaker. I unplugged the scanner to move it to a new position and when I plugged it back in it pops when turned back on but has no display, lights, or sound. The adapter still works, I tested it on another BCT15X. The speakers are unplugged now and I have tried another adapter and another plug-in. Nothing. Any ideas?

What speaker? Amplified, or non-amplified? In the house, or vehicle? Do you know the impedance (ohms)?

If the display and backlight and audio all quit working at the same time, its not a speaker problem, it's a power problem, as in the power supply circuitry inside the scanner has failed somehow.

That sounds expensive. Ugh
