I have a Uniden GPS puck and adapter cable I’ve been using with my 436HP forever. I can’t find anything about what works with the SDS-100 in the manual. I’m getting my scanner on Friday and was planning a trip out of town this weekend using GPS Scanning. Judging by the photos of the side connectors it appears the Scanner uses a different connection than the 436Hp. Can anyone confirm what is needed to make this work? I’m not sure I’ll be able to get another adapter cable before this weekend if it’s needed. Wish I had known about this potential problem before I ordered the scanner!

There's a different cable needed, but you can still use the GPS puck. Its the same one used by the 325P2.

ordered the cable from Uniden which is in my back yard and paid for 2 day FedEx shipping. I'm leaving town on Saturday morning and my SDS-100 gets here Friday. Already have a GPS favorites list mapped out for this road trip and wanted to use the new radio. Alas, it requires this new cable and I had to burn some money to guarantee it was here before I leave.

I ordered the SDS-100 from Scanner Master last week....takes them 3 days minimum to ship here so that wasn't an option for the cable and their 2 day shipping was more.

Oh well, I should be set Friday evening to get everything going on Saturday! Thanks for the help!

It's a bit of a pain, but if worst comes to worst, you could change zip codes as you move along your way. Kind of a poor man's GPS deal. Set the Range for 30.0 miles and change zip code every 30 miles.

Uniden BC-GPSK and SDS100

Does anyone know how you use a Uniden BC-GPSK that puts out the NMEA0183 GGA message with position in the form DDMM.mmmm where the SDS GPS setup only allows DDD MM SS.ss or DD.dddddd?

The actual NMEA0183 serial data is standard, regardless of the format the device uses to display it.

"ordered the cable from Uniden "
?????

Everywhere I look, it (BC-UTGC) is out of stock and has been for awhile now.
Are you saying you successfully ordered one?
(actually have one that was shipped)?

Yes apparently they underestimated the popularity of the cable, some are supposedly on the way in August according to rumor, I actually rolled my own according to some threads i found on here

I figure it will work until i get an actual cable, so far so good on the trip from Columbus, OH to Seattle, WA and Back

only hope Uniden will be Shipping enough to handle the backorders and some

I'm actually glad they finally decided that the old design was bad and created a new connection type to the scanner. The old type connection would end up breaking off the internal circuit board on the Home Patrols. I had to send my HPII in to repair it for that issue. $$$ expensive repair. My.02

As did I, but I still want one of the Uniden cables.

And del1964, I totally agree. For the reason you state, and because having all connections in one cable/connector is cleaner - and easier to make ("roll your own"). The only real 'trick' to it is getting something built that can pass the amount of current required by the SDS100, which is a bit hungry.

Would have made so much more sense to have included GPS built-into the scanner. Especially when Uniden holds the patents to it.
