Has anyone shaved the inside of the plastic riser around the Antenna post ?

I have several Sma antenna's I can't use debating on shaving the inside or maybe cutting the whole thing down .

Thoughts, opinions, ideas ??

If I end up keeping the SDS100 my plan is to shave down a few millimeters and test a few antennas .

So you shaved the antenna's sma sides ?

What did you use to get this done ?

I made a thread a while back about it. I put the tip in a hand drill, used a thin wrench to hold the bnc near the plastic and lathed it against some sand paper taped to a work bench. A small lathe would have have been nice.

Antennas are cheaper than radios.

I spun down the remtronix to make it fit.

Exactly, just for safety reasons i've been using a small SMA Female -> Male extender I picked up at a local shop, brings everything up and out of the recessed SMA. I really do not care about weather proofing since its primarily inside and sending audio to a laptop via a scarlett interface and out through two KRK monitors. :)

I paid about 8.99 for the back case for the 436HP. I'll pick up a replacement case for the SDS100 when they become available. I don't want to mess up my antennas.

Amen!!

For a time, I may have been tempted (to trim down the riser), but only for 0.68 seconds.

(bonus points if anyone can guess the movie this quote came from. LOL!!)

ST First Contract of course.. That's nearly an eternity for an Android ;)

Tempted to shave down my connector as well. Looking to grab a bigger antenna. May go with the adapter route though to buy some time before I decide to do that.

Nothing wrong with using an adapter to BNC

Exactly... (shave antenna vs the radio)

SRH77CA

Dremel with a grinder wheel.
Don't need to remove much material.
Suggest a little, test and remove more if needed.
I also uses a sanding wheel to smooth the rougher grind.

Afterwards, I used some aluminum black to get rid of the shiny.
(Aluminum black is used by gunsmiths - look on brownells.com, etc)

Great fit - barely can tell it's 'custom fit'.
