• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So just curious...had a G4 before the Phase II firmware.
And worked normal.

Then sold that unit.
Then got another G4 with Phase II firmware.
Used same profile as before in PPS.

Now when say I adjust the volume there is a lag. (before it shows volume level on screen) Or say I am doing other functions on the radio itself there seems to be a bit of lag that wasn't there on my previous non Phase II unit.

Has anyone else noticed it? Not complaining too much - just curious.

My G4's screen tends to be a bit sluggish. I purchased my G4 with the Phase II capability installed so I have no comparison to a non-P2 unit.

Same as radio3353 - I bought my G5 with Phase-II, so have nothing to compare, but did notice that the on-screen response to volume adjustments is laggy. Another oddity that I've noticed is that sometimes twiddling the volume control will wake up the screen immediately, sometimes it'll wake up after some seconds, and sometimes it won't wake up at all..

Moving the volume knob has never waked my screen. I will only see the volume bar while turning the knob if something else wakes the screen, either a transmission or pressing a button.

I noticed that when I started having a "large" number of talkgroups...the volume went from normal to more sluggish and not waking up the screen. Probably when I started to exceed about 150 TGs? Not sure though. This is on a G4 without Phase II.

I have only 26 TGs defined, and no more than 9 in any single knob position list.... FWIW...

Simple solution to volume bar: tap the toggle button, adjust the volume, and you are done, I own three and it is and has been that way from day one for mine

Yes, that's what I've been doing ... but the point is that the behaviour is inconsistent, which is indicative of an underlying problem.

Ok - Those guys at Unication Rock.

A simple firmware re-flash and running great !! I should have known.
All is well - even taught me a new trick or two.

Now if I could just get my local city on AES encryption instead of the crap encryption they are on. (LOL).

My mind is mush today. How does one re-flash the firmware? Thanks.

There's a ZIP file in the "Image" subdirectory of the Phase-II dropbox. It includes the tool to flash the image. I just did mine. I'm skeptical, but will see if it makes any difference. Don't blame me if you brick your unit, though. If you're in any doubt, have support walk you through the procedure.....
