If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings,

I just received my G4 from Ray today (great guy), and I'm having a bit of an issue. I can't seem to get Push to Listen to disable. I've set it to "Yes" and "No" in PPS and it doesn't seem to have any effect. I have to push the button to hear calls with either setting in the knob page. Does the setting exist somewhere else in PPS that I'm not seeing?

Something that may be worth noting: The model number on the box, the model number that PPS provides when the pager is connected, and the model number Ray told me to use, are all different.

Ray told me to use: G4B67BF-SXXXEN1400UNI

PPS says its a: G4B64BF-SXXXEN1400UNI

Box Says: GS442RE-SXXX1500UNI

I assumed Ray knew best, so that's the one I used. Not sure if this is relevant, other than this issue, it programmed fine.

Assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just to be clear... in the PPS you're selecting Push to Listen: 'NO' in D5 of the PPS correct?

I've selected and programmed both "Yes" and "No." Currently, it's set to "No" for all knobs and is still exhibiting Push to Listen behavior for all knobs.

Ok, I think you have the radio set to 'OFF DUTY'. It shoud be an easy fix... Its a setting you can manually change form the FRONT of the radio.
Easiest solution is go to an inactive talkgroup/zone so your radio isn't interrupted when you do this. goto the F.Sts button on the front. Push. Toggle down to Duty On/Off. (My guess is yours says "Current: Off")
Hit Set button. Toggle over to "On" and hit Save button.
That should eliminate needing to use the monitor button on the side of your radio.

An excellent suggestion, but unfortunately, I've already checked that. I am currently on duty, still, no joy.

Edit: Also checked the default in PPS, and it is set to default to On Duty.

Hey, I see that you have Voice Buffering set to off in the PPS. Select ON for each zone/channel. It is supposed to help eliminate the voice being cut off at the beginning of each transmission...

Noted, will do. I think the variously agencies here in Dayton have excellent mic discipline, because when I sit here and hold the PtL button, literally nothing is missed. They key up, the call is recognized, and about a second later voice starts.

Change alert mode from silent to tone.

Brilliant! It's easy to interpret that as being an "Alert Tone" every time a call is received. But that doesn't appear to be the case. Now it's behaving as expected. Thanks!

You’re welcome!
If you select a tone for a TGID on the Group ID settings tab it would play the tone - that’s where voice buffering would be needed.

Man, this thing is good. In comparison, my RTL-SDR setup with an 800MHz yagi in the attic is just a garbled mess. Amazing.
