If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm not sure if this is the correct area for this question so I apologize in advance.

I bought a TYT MD-2017 DMR radio. It has digital functionality and I'm currently attempting to program in some of our local police channels as receive only so I can scan them.

I have the proper receive frequencies programmed in, but the only section I'm missing is adding the NAC (network access code) in. I'm not sure if I need this in order to hear anything but I haven't been able to pick up anything yet, so I figure I need it.

I can't seem to find the spot to program in the NAC code into the digital frequency in the programming software for TYT.

Anyone know if it can be done and where to find the NAC code section?

The MD-2017 is NOT a P25 radio. NAC’s are only for P25 capable radios. The MD-2017 is a DMR/FM radio geared towards amateurs. Unless your local public safety is using DMR, you’re out of luck.

Adding on to that, would you be able recommend a different handheld that does P25 for around the same price as the TYT?

For about $130 on eBay, there are some good Model 1 VHF Motorola XTS5000’s for sale. Also, you could get one of those SDR’s with a program called Digital Signal Decoder+

You'll likely have to add another zero to the price for a transceiver that does P25, and then have to deal with the pitfalls of programming non-affiliate scan without a system key. Your best bet is to get a scanner that does P25, like theSDS100 (if the systems you're trying to monitor are simulcast) or the BCD436HP (if they are not simulcast).
