Gps receiver

Is there any way to confirm that a GPS receiver is working as it should on the SDS100 without driving a great distance? I don’t believe the scanner has a gps display showing the strength of each satellite....

I have the GlobalSat BR-355S4 USB GPS receiver rather then the Uniden receiver.

Yes. . .

Without the GPS device connected, use the keypad to enter a zipcode far away from you. For example, 90210 which I think is Beverly Hills CA. Then, with the full database enabled, watch the scanner load the California "stuff".

Once it does that, then connect and power up your GPS device. The scanner should then load the "stuff" for your area. If it does so, that confirms it is receiving GPS data and loads what should be loaded. (It may take a few minutes for the GPS device to acquire satellites and you need to be in full view of the sky, etc.)

PS - this is Upman's suggestion, so he gets credit for that.

On an SDS100, I'd recommend you customize your display to show lat / long somewhere.
Then, when you see the GPS position numbers, you know the radio is rec'ving GPS position.

BTW: the 355S4 IS the same GPS as the Uniden, just a different label....

If you happen to live in Beverly Hills, another zip code to try is 10019 (NYC).
