I bought an old Uniden 860XLT at a hamfest for $5. However, it came without the 10 volt AC / 120 volt AC adapter (not a mistype - 10V AC). Any clue where I can get a 10V AC adapter for this scanner?

DC is not recommended for this radio - use AC input voltage as the manual specifies. There is a voltage doubler in the radio that needs AC input to work correctly. The radio may run on DC but will not be operating on the correct internal voltage for the VCO stage.
See https://forums.radioreference.com/radio-shack-scanners/297387-power-supply-pro-2016-a.html for discussion on this issue.
Occasionally the correct adapter AC-144U shows up on ebay.

Interestingly, I have discovered that Uniden's BC365CRS (no digital, no trunking but a huge display) also requires a similar 10V AC adapter. Probably it's for the same reason given in pro92b's post.

The BC365CRS manual lists 12VDC as the power source. Attached are three labels from BC365CRS eBay auctions, also indicating 12VDC. Where did you find a 10VAC power spec?

Here is the info I have on AC-144U usage:
Radios That Use AC-144U 10VAC Adapter for Power

BC144XL
BC147XLT-1
BC148XLT-1
BC178XLT
BC244CLT
BC248CLT
BC278CLT
BC860XLT
PRO-2016

--------------------------------------------------

Uniden AC Adapter Model AC-144U
Input AC 120V 60Hz 5W
Output AC 10V 300mA Class 2

At 122VAC input the no load output was 10.8VAC.

Input resistance 294.8 Ohms
Output resistance 2.20 Ohms

Output power plug is 5.5mm OD x 2.1mm ID (Adaptaplug M)
