One of the SDS100's, I have won't power down when the button is pushed.
Actually the button won't do anything, back light, etc.

So I went into the menu and set the timer for five minutes and it shut off after
Allotted time.

Now won't power back on.

But while plugged in I noted the key pad light on.
Ok I unplugged it, light still on.
Removed Battery light out!

Plugged in without battery radio powered up automatically without pressing button.

So sounds like it's headed to TX unless someone has a idea short of opening up.

You forgot to mention the most important part. Will it power down by the button when you have it started without its battery?

What happens if go into menu and select charge while on compared to no charge and change anything else that might be related to the battery like the switch off voltage?

Charge while on is enabled.
No, will not turn off with button while plugged in usb and no battery.
Only way it shut off is remove power, ie battery or cable.
As soon as power is supplied it comes back on and everything else works fine.

Almost sounds like the power button circuitry is shorted.

It is the kind of weird stuff that can happen with messed up SD card, but you seem to have ruled that out.

Button functions are manage in firmware and that only loads once to the scanner at upgrades if the checksums match up and shouldn't be affected by a suddenly corrupt SD card. Could be the mechanical button that fails as no function related to the button works, which rule out the seperate on/off circuitry and similar faults.

Try pushing the button from different sides while the scanner is on and see if the backlight kicks in.

Update,
Got the Scanner back after four and half weeks and it said on the repair ticket
"Firmware Upgrade"

Radio had the latest update when sent off and now has the same update.

So it's fixed now;
