It was just S1. It went into Failsoft. Everyone went to S2 and Conventional and Motorola and IDPS Techs fixed it pretty fast. The whole systems looking at the upgrade to Phase II in near future, and the new CAD systems should be in place by Halloween at the latest.. Next 2 weeks if no delays lol.

One more reason to pick up an SDS-100. It is getting easier and easier to talk myself into it! I didn't know the Phase II upgrade was that close!

If ccc can be convinced of it first step of new radios etc will start within year. Full upgrade by 2020. Again that's if the ccc comprehends the need.

CCC is City/County Council. And oddly enough that all this will be on the timeline for beginning of Phase II on SAFE-T....

In a non-bizarro world, IDPS and IPSC would cooperate with regards to P25 Phase II so the interop is persistent. But, this is Indiana. So don't get your hopes up.

Joining the party late on this one.

S1 actually didn’t go into Failsoft, like it was supposed to. Everyone’s radios just went “Out of Range”.

Eventually, everyone got moved over to S2 and then they made a software change at the Core to allow S1 talkgroups to roam on S2.

Started with a weekly generator test at one of the sites and then there was a cascading failure of S1.

I've seen a few AARs where generators died after running for a while because fuel got contaminated or had moisture in it, but they passed a monthly or quarterly 2 or 3 minute test without any loading.

It's been many years since I was doing Motorola trunking, in the analog days the radio would go to its designated fail soft channel once the CC was lost. What is the digital version of fallback?

The CCC passed special resolutions last week funding the purchase of new radios, public safety and non safety.

Actually yes. But first is replacing all the discontinued and beginning to fall apart HTs and Mobiles etc... Upgrading infrastructure and making sure everything plays nice with everything else. At least with S1 and S2, since S3 and S4 are almost brand new compared to the original systems. :)

So just out of curiosity - when S1/S2 were upgraded from the original analog TRS to P25 Phase I was that a "rip-and-replace" or were individual pieces swapped out or given firmware upgrades to accommodate the different modulation scheme and is the upgrade from Phase I to Phase II another "rip-and-replace"?

Original was upgrade of firmware, some hardware, and buildout of couple of new sites, and conversion of IPL & Citizens systems plus merger of them into IDPS. This is a almost complete replacement of radios, and an upgrade to the infrastructure and firmware. Phase II will be one of the final steps and will require coordination of the entire IDPS family, as well as with IPSC and working with SAFE-T. SAFE-T is also about to start the upgrade process in some areas to Phase II, right after the finish up on INDOC conversions and the simulcast site up north. All of this will take a few months at best, more likely a year or longer as we have learned to expect delays around here lol.

"The new communication tools cost about $35 million and replace a decades-old system."

Deceptive. City PR making this out like IDPS is replacing the old 450 MHz system that dated back to the 1970's.

Well the hardware is decades old. They are running End of Life XTS's etc.... A LOT of the radios in use on IDPS S1, and S2 is original from the time MECA first went to 800. So yes, your talking 2 decades. As well as consoles etc... They are beginning to phase in the new APX's with fire services now (Speedway and Airport got the first ones), and over the next year will replace all the radios, repeaters, consoles etc... Pretty much a total rebuild except for the infrastructure such as towers etc...
