I'm trying to program a Radio Shack Pro-2096 using Win500, V02.06 software. I was successful reading the radio as well as importing information from the Radio Reference database. I just can't find anywhere in the software how to write the information back to the scanner. Soon as you connect the programming cable to the radio it goes into Clone Mode. Again I can read the radio but can not figure out how to write the information back to this old scanner. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Thanks Guys for responding.

I spent quite a few hours playing with the Pro-2096 & Win500. Being able to read the scanner but not able to write back to the unit had me baffled. I guess I'll never get those wasted hours back again... Thanks for responding.

I think ARC96 also has a trial version. Why you would think that Win500 would work with this scanner (their home page lists all the compatible ones) is beyond me, but at least you're now on the right track

Hi Mike:

Because the Win500 allows you to read the Pro-2096 and make changes. Why would I believe you can't write the information back to the scanner?

Thanks for your assistance in this matter.

Because the writer of the software, Don Starr, designed it so you could transfer that info/configuration from the 96/2096 to any of the newer scanners, Pro-106/197, 500/600, and the latest 1040/1065. It was designed for that purpose only. Win96 will read and write to your scanner.

Simple, just Install ARC96 that fully supports your radio, I've used it programming pro 96/2096's, is free for 45 days and is only $15 vs. $30 win500
End of story.

WIN500 requirements
System Requirements
In order to run Win500, you'll need the following:

A copy of the Win500 program
A PSR-500 or PSR-600 Scanner, or the RadioShack equivalents: PRO-106 or PRO-197 (They forgot Pro 651/652, WS1040/1095)
The blue GRE USB Scanner Programming cable that came in the box with your scanner. If using a Radio Shack scanner, you'll need to buy a cable: either the GRE cable or RadioShack's catalog #20-047. Older "serial" cables will not work with these radios.
A PC running Windows 2000 or later (i.e. 2000, XP, Vista, 7). Earlier versions of Windows, such as 95, 98, and Me, are not supported.

Ah, something I didn't know. Handy for those folks migrating from a 96 or 2096. Thanks Larry

You're welcome, MIke. That part of Win500 helped me ten years ago setting up my new Pro-106 from my 96. That's how I learned about Scanlists v banks of the 96. Easy peasy now.
Don't own the 96 anymore. Talk about a scanner that couldn't handle LSM.
